The dog has a good size and range from 25 to 27 inches in height. They normally have a weight of 60 to 70 pounds. Irish Setter is elegant in appearance and it stands tall with a long neck and fairly long legs. The muzzle of the dog is moderate, and ears hang.
The biggest attraction of the Irish Setter is its coat. The shade of the coat ranges from deep mahogany to light red. Irish Setter has a flat and staring coat that might have waves and a medium length. On the chest, back of legs and tail, hair is normally longer. On the ear, you will find a silky fringe.
The crowning factor of the dog is its elegant and glamorous appearance. The lips of Irish Setter are often pendulous, and you might find them drooling. They often live from 12 to 14 years and are known as hardy dog.

As already mentioned that they have the hunting roots, so it is important that you properly train the dog. They love to participate in exercise programs and other running activities. You have to be gentle and patient when you are training the Irish Setter for the best results.

Never trust the Irish Setter to guard your house, however, they can alarm you by barking. They are good with children but they are big and so you have to assure that they socialize properly. Make sure children are not afraid of larger sized dog when introduced for the first time because normally the setters want to be very friendly.
