Take care of Irish Setter Grooming is very important in case of Irish Setter. You will have to check his coat on a daily basis for any foxtails or debris. Brush the coat at least 2 to 3 times per week. It might seem like quick grooming, but you have to be consistent. The brushing won't take long so don't worry about it.
As already mentioned that they have the hunting roots, so it is important that you properly train the dog. They love to participate in exercise programs and other running activities. You have to be gentle and patient when you are training the Irish Setter for the best results. A sense of humor coupled with disciple makes Irish Setter the perfect member of the family. They have been participating in the dog sports for many years. the Irish Setter can easily pass the hunt and obedience test. Never trust the Irish Setter to guard your house, however, they can alarm you by barking. They are good with children but they are big and so you have to assure that they socialize properly. Make sure children are not afraid of larger sized dog when introduced for the first time because normally the setters want to be very friendly.

Do not serve your puppy with cooked meat even if he is asking for it. There are different types of spices in the cooked meat that are not good for the digestive system of dog and it can lead to some health issues. In case you cannot afford to buy organic food, it is better that you wash the inorganic item with apple cider vinegar. There are many pesticides on the coat of fruits and vegetables that are fatal for the puppy. Our beautiful "baby Bond" passed away few weeks ago. It has been very hard on the family as he was much loved and he was such a good dog. Great with kids, excellent temperament and never any problems. We are very sad but at least we will have the memory of him.  I was out walking with Lúna, there she saw a goose and even though we haven't trained her at all, she still knew roughly what to do. I love to see my dogs in their element like that! We all had a great time during a walk that the irish setter club in iceland organized. A few pictures here but more are on our facebook page. Lúna and Íri also had their first show a few weeks back, we forgot to take picture but they got great critique by judge Frank Kane and Lúna got her first icelandic ck and was second best bitch. He said she needed time to develop and considering she is only 1 year old and 2 week since she came out of quarantine she did so well. |
